VA Claims Vanishing? Veteran Sounds the Alarm

What happens when a veteran files a claim for benefits, gets confirmation that it was submitted — and then discovers it may not actually be in the Department of Veterans Affairs system?
That is the alarming problem veteran advocate Steve Miller describes in this episode of Lean to the Left.
Miller, who spent nine years with the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, says some claims submitted through veterans service organizations are being transmitted but are not being properly entered into the VA claims system. He describes the result as a bureaucratic “black hole” that can leave veterans waiting without knowing whether their claims are actually being processed.
According to Miller, the problem came to light while he was tracking his own claim. He says a VA representative told him the system was down and that veterans affected by the issue had not been notified. Miller says the problem had already persisted for at least four months.
The stakes can be significant.

These claims involve service-connected injuries and illnesses and can affect both financial compensation and access to healthcare.
Miller has firsthand experience helping veterans navigate that system. Through Wellness for Veterans, he says he has helped more than 800 veterans secure service-connected benefits worth more than $1.5 million annually — and he provides that assistance free of charge.
His work also extends beyond disability claims. Miller says he helps veterans obtain equipment and services including wheelchairs, hearing aids, diabetes monitoring systems, and housing assistance.
In this conversation, Miller explains why he believes the VA claims problem deserves immediate attention, why he is frustrated by the lack of response from elected officials, and why he sees veterans’ benefits as an issue that should rise above partisan politics.
As he puts it: “Country before party.”
If Miller’s account is accurate, veterans deserve answers about how many claims may be affected, how long the problem has been occurring, and what the VA is doing to make sure those claims are found and processed.
